WELCOME TO KCU 2022 HOMECOMING: CHANGING HEALTHCARE FOR GOOD
Kansas City University (KCU) has put together an outstanding Continuing Medical Education (CME) program for its 2022 Homecoming: Changing Healthcare for Good. The sessions include topics that are current, relevant, and important to physicians and medical professionals. The presenters feature some new faces as well as popular, seasoned conference speakers. All will be providing updates in medicine.
Please plan to carry a mask with you when you’re on campus. We require masks for all lab and clinical activities. While masks are not currently required in other on-campus indoor settings, they are encouraged, and there may be instances where you are asked to wear a mask when distancing is not possible.

The conference will take place live, in-person on the KCU Kansas City campus September 22, 2022, through September 24, 2022. The conference will be available virtually for those who cannot attend in-person. Also, the conference presentations will be recorded, and available on-demand starting September 28, and available until October 31, 2022.

Accreditation Statement
The event has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and American Osteopathic Association (AOA) through the joint providership of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) and Kansas City University (KCU) College of Osteopathic Medicine. MAOPS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Grievance Policy

Grievances should be addressed to the KCU CME Director at cme@kansascity.edu. All grievances will receive an initial response from KCU within 30 days of receipt. KCU will resolve the grievance, if possible.
If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response from KCU, they can then submit the grievance in writing to the KCU’s accredited sponsor, the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS). Grievances should be addressed to the MAOPS Executive Director at 1423 Randy Lane, Jefferson City, MO 65101. All grievances will receive a response from MAOPS in writing within 30 days of receipt. MAOPS will resolve the grievance, if possible.

KCU’s online registration accepts credit card payments to cover food costs for the in-person event and a registration fee for non-KCU Alumni. A third generation Osteopathic Physician, Dr. Treffer earned his DO degree from KCU-COM in 1987 and completed a Rotating Internship at University Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in 1988. He is board certified in Osteopathic Family Practice by the AOBACOFP and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine by the AOBNMM/OMM. He earned his Fellow award from the ACOFP in 2013. He has served as full time OMM faculty for 28 years as of July 20, 2020 and has helped train over 5500 Osteopathic Physicians at KCU. He is the Chair of the Department of OMM for KCU-COM (KC and Joplin Campuses). He maintains a Specialty Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine practice here in Kansas City at the KC Care Health Care Center. He authored a chapter in Waldman Pain Management Textbook on the Osteopathic Approach to the Chronic Pain Patient, editions 1 and 2. He is a member of AACOM’s Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles since 1992 and served as the Chair of the Council from 2011 to 2015. He has given numerous lectures and workshops covering multiple OMM topics on a local, regional and national level. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Mentor Hall of Fame for the AOA. He received the 2002 Family Physician of the Year award from the Missouri Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and was the 2018 KCU-COM Alumnus of the year.

Dr. Orth is a graduate of KCU, and has been in practice 29 years within the Kansas City Metro. He is one of 12 surgeons within Orthopedic Surgeons Inc. (OSI) and practices general orthopedics. He is the Program Director of Orthopaedics with KCU/ HCA Health Care Kansas City. He is active in the orthopaedic surgery community, being a fellow of and serving as the secretary treasurer of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO). He also chairs the Program Director Section of the AOAO, and has served as a member of ACGME Orthopaedic Milestones 2.0 committee.
His practice of general orthopaedic surgery affords him excellent exposure to all areas of this field. He utilizes his skills to teach students, orthopaedic residents, family medicine residents, and family medicine sports medicine fellows how to be comfortable and knowledgeable in this field. It is a pleasure being able to help patients, students, residents and fellows to reach their potential, and continuing to make our profession stronger with knowledge and compassion for others.

Dr. David Sine, PhD, Chair of the Biomedical Ethics Department at KCU, earned a bachelor’s degree in design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and then a Master’s degree in Health Policy and a Doctorate in Biomedical Ethics from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University. He has been the Senior Staff Engineer for The Joint Commission, a Senior Consultant for the AHA, and Vice Chair of the board of Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas and a board member of the American Society of Hospital Risk Managers (ASHRM). He has extensive leadership experience in military, private, and acute care settings as well as experience in both academic and organizational settings and serves as a member of the NFPA Life Safety Code Subcommittee on Health Care Occupancies, and acts as a risk management and clinical ethics advisor to the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS). Well known as co-editor of the Design Guide for Behavior Health Facilities, David writes and speaks frequently on the intersection of ethics, safety, and risk management.

Dr. Nauman Ashraf is the Program Director for KCU-GME Consortium/Ozark Center Psychiatry Residency program in Joplin, Missouri. He serves as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at KCU. He has worked at Ozark Center since July 2013, treating patients with mental illness and comorbid substance use disorders. He also serves as the Medical Director of Addiction Services at Ozark Center and established Ozark Center’s outpatient buprenorphine treatment program in 2017. He graduated from Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences in Pakistan. He completed his psychiatry residency at New York University School of Medicine as well as a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry. He is board certified in General Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He is the recipient of the Harold I. Kaplan Memorial Award for outstanding contributions in the field of psychiatric teaching and education. He has co-authored book chapters and published peer reviewed articles. He serves as a Prescriber Consultant for the SAMSHA STR-TA Consortium to help fight the opioid epidemic. He has been invited as a speaker to multiple regional, national and international conferences and has given media talks on the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder. He has a passion toward improving resident wellness and completed a research project titled the Psychiatry Residency Yoga Training Experiment at Ozark Center. He also served as the PI for KCU- GME Consortium funded project, called 5 Factor Wellness Model, to improve wellness for all residents in the KCU Consortium.

Robert D Arnce, M.D., FACEP, is a board certified, residency trained emergency physician. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in 1989. He graduated from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota in 1993 and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville in 1996. He received his board certification Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1996 and Fellowship status from the American College of Emergency Physicians in 1999.
Dr. Arnce is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He practiced emergency medicine for over 30 years and is an attending in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Dr. Robert McNab is a dedicated internist based in Joplin, MO, with a strong commitment to patient empowerment through education. His passion for lifestyle medicine deepened after experiencing its transformative effects in his own life. Dr. Carol Kirila is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who graduated from KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a rotating internship in Jefferson City, Missouri followed by her Internal Medicine residency with the UMKC School of Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital and Truman Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. Dr. Kirila is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Department of Primary Care at KCU in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also serves as the Chair of the Medical Advisory Board for the National Kidney Foundation of Western Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma and is a member of the NKF Health Equity Committee.

Jared W. Nichols, DO, is board certified in Family Medicine & OMT, Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, and has a certificate in Integrative Medicine. He earned his degree at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO, residency at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO, and post-graduate fellowship at University of North Texas Health Science Center. After completing his fellowship, he transitioned from teaching residents to teaching second year medical students at Kansas City University- Joplin Campus. While on faculty at KCU, Dr. Nichols has been the course director for the Year 2 Osteopathic Skills course and a Transition to Clerkship course focused on preparing 2nd year students for their rotations. Dr. Nichols has previously served as a lecturer and editor for Doctors In Training, an independent board-prep resource.
He currently spends his work time developing curriculum for and preparing 2nd year medical students for their clinical years, directing OMM fellows, and conducting research. Dr. Nichols also hold a non-opioid pain management clinic at a local Federal Community Health Center.
Dr. Nichols is a self-proclaimed Missourian for life. He has three little girls with his wife Jourdan and loves to teach. He interests include regenerative medicine, health and wellness, and pinball.

David Paul, DO, became interested in health care through his father, who was a dentist. As a medical student, he became interested in orthopedics after shadowing his older brother many times, Dr. Robert Paul. He performed his residency with OSI, then joined the practice following its completion. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He received his bachelor’s degree in science from Avila University, Kansas City, Mo.
In high school, Dr. Paul was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track and field. He continued his basketball career in college, playing Division I basketball at Eastern Illinois University for two years. He was academic All American his second year at Eastern. He transferred and finished his basketball career at Avila University. With his background in sports, he enjoys working with young athletes, helping them return to their level of play. He also appreciates the technical aspect of performing orthopedic surgery, as well as the gratification of being able to improve his patients’ lives in a relatively short period of time.
Although he still performs most aspects of orthopedic surgery, his practice has become extremely busy with adult reconstruction, or total joint replacements. He began performing the direct anterior approach to hip replacement about 10 years ago, helping patients recover in less time and with less pain than with traditional joint replacement surgery. He strives to keep current on the newest and most innovative surgical techniques, especially as they relate to knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Paul is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He belongs to several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. He also serves as an associate clinical instructor for the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and trains surgeon for the orthopedic surgery residency.
Dr. Paul and his wife, Melissa, have four adult children, Matthew, Allison, Meagan and Nathan; and three dogs. He enjoys boating, fishing, traveling and spending time with family.

Marc B. Hahn, DO, was appointed the 14th president and CEO of Kansas City University (KCU) in July 2013. He previously served as the University’s executive vice president, provost and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). Founded in 1916, KCU is the home of two medical school locations (KC and Joplin, MO) and a graduate school with multiple science and health professions programs.
Previously, Dr. Hahn served as senior vice president and dean for the University of New England, as well as the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He was chief of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care and professor of Anesthesiology at the Penn State College of Medicine, where he served as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance.
Dr. Hahn earned a BS in Biology from Syracuse University and a DO from Des Moines University. He completed an anesthesiology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and a fellowship in pain management at National Institutes of Health and Georgetown University. He held the position of chief of pain management at Walter Reed and the Uniformed Services University. While in the Army, he served as anesthesiologist for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Notably in the past, Dr. Hahn was the president of the American Academy of Pain Medicine; chair of the Board of Deans for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine and co-chair for the Blue-Ribbon Commission for the Advancement of Osteopathic Medical Education; Medicaid commission member to the Governor of Texas; planning member for National Academy of Medicine Report on Graduate Medical Education and trustee for Rockhurst University. He is currently a member of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City; serves on the board of directors for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas City Area Development Council and is a Trustee of MRIGlobal (Midwest Research Institute).
Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, CS-F is most recently Dean of MWU/CCOM serving from 2002 until stepping down July 2018. Prior to serving as Dean, she held leadership positions at the MWU/AZCOM. She was in the private practice of internal medicine in Mesa, Arizona from 1985. A graduate of KCU-COM, she holds a Master’s degree in Management from Central Michigan University.
Dr. Nichols has received the highest awards bestowed by the osteopathic profession. She was the first woman elected as President of AOA, AOMA and ACOI. Dr. Nichols was elected to the board of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2015 and was elected as chair for 2020-2022.
In 2004 Dr. Nichols created the endowed Costin Institute for Osteopathic Medical Educators. Her book “Physician Leadership: The 11 Skills Every Doctor Needs to be an Effective Leader” was just published by John Wiley & Sons.

Dr. Getch earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology and completed both her pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital/Feinberg School of Medicine. While at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, she worked on several NIMH R01 and R21 projects focused on affective processing as well as perinatal anxiety and depression. After deciding to pursue a career in academia, Dr. Getch worked as an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University in the Department of Behavioral Medicine. In addition to teaching and mentoring Psy.D. students, she served as Director of Admissions, Education Chair, Co-Chair of the Self-Study & Accreditation Committee, and was a founding member of the Interprofessional Education Committee. More recently, Dr. Getch joined Kansas City University (KCU) as the Program Director of the Clinical Psychology program and Assistant Provost for Accreditation where she and her team have built an APA accredited PsyD program. She continues to build IPE curriculum both within the PsyD program and at a university-wide level by assisting in the creation of the university-wide IPE Committee, serving on the IPE steering committee, and through the creation of IPE coursework as well as multiple IPE student experiences.

Benjamin Grin, MD, MPH, received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, and he completed Internal Medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. He received his MPH from Brown University. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Primary Care at KCU, where he teaches clinical skills to 1st and 2nd year medical students and is involved in expanding public health training within the medical school. He is the Chief Medical Officer of the Kansas City, MO Health Department (KCHD), where he provides strategic leadership for KCHD’s clinical programs and serves as a key member of the leadership team. He maintains an active clinical practice at the KC CARE Health Center; his clinical work includes primary care, HIV care, and care for patients with substance use disorders.

Nathan Hall is director and chair of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Division of the University of Kansas Medical Center Subspecialty Group in Wichita, Kan. He oversees the daily clinical, research and medical education for his department, and he provides direct patient care to children with a variety of hematologic and oncologic problems. Dr. Hall has a special interest in providing subspecialty health care to children and families in rural and underserved regions of the community he serves.
Dr. Hall grew up in Hutchinson, Kan., and graduated from Buhler High School in 2001. He attended Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2005. Dr. Hall was then accepted into KCU’s inaugural class of the College of Biosciences, where he earned his Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences in 2006. He went on to earn a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from KCU and a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Leadership from Rockhurst University, both in 2010. Dr. Hall completed both his residency in Pediatrics in 2013 and fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology in 2016 at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Throughout Dr. Hall's career, he has been the recipient of various awards including the faculty teaching award, fellowship teaching award, residency teaching award and student DO of the year award. In addition to serving on the KCU Board of Trustees, he is a trustee on the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Board in Wichita, Kan., and the KCU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Dr. Cooley received his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Washburn University, and his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kansas City University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine Residency with KCU, and is Board Certified through AOBFP. Dr. Cooley has served as Program Director for the Addiction Related Services at the Menninger Clinic, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for the Wyandot Behavioral Health Center, Medical Director of the Mainstream Kansas City Alcohol and Drug Recovery Program, Medical Director of the Opioid Dependency Treatment Program for the Samuel U Rodgers Health Center, and as the supervising physician for the Integrated Behavioral Medicine and Pain Management Services for the Health Partnership Clinic. Ronald Holt, DO, is a board-certified psychiatrist, author, and national speaker. For over two decades, Holt has been a relentless advocate and educator on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues and civil rights. In 2008, Holt expanded his presentations nationally to include LGBTQ+ healthcare, the consequences of bullying, and suicide risk reduction. He has presented to hundreds of audiences, including physician audiences, on how to provide culturally competent care to the LGBTQ+ community.
Holt, along with his husband, William Huggett, MD, have published a self-help book and supportive coloring books for the LGBTQ+ community.
He has received several awards across the country for his community service and commitment to diversity. In the late 2000s, Holt received his previous employer’s David Lawrence community service award and RJ Erickson diversity achievement award, making him the first physician within Kaiser Permanente to receive both awards in the individual category.
In 2022, he was elevated to Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and graduated from SFSU with a MA degree in Sexuality.
His master’s thesis was original research entitled, “The Impact of Rural Geography on Sexual Identity.” In addition to being a KCU Adjunct Assistant Professor, Holt currently practices as a student health physician at San Francisco State University.

Richard Morgan, MD, is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Care, and is licensed in Missouri and Kansas. He received a bachelor of arts degree in biology and his medical degree from the University of Kansas, and completed his residency in anesthesiology at St. Luke's Hospital. He has over 42 years of experience in the medical field. His fellowships included pain management and critical care. Charlene LePane, DO, MSPH, FASGE, FACG, FACOI, began her career as a nurse, then completed her BS at Auburn University in 1998. She earned a MSPH from UAB in 1999 with her thesis concentration in Epidemiology. She graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences as a DO in 2004 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, where she served as Chief Resident. She subsequently served as Chief Fellow during her Gastroenterology fellowship at St. John Oakland-Macomb Hospital in Michigan. She is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She has published multiple studies in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She remains active as a trustee with the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, where she previously served as District 3 President. She is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). She serves on the Board of Directors for the ACOI and gives of her time on several committees for the ACOI. Dr. LePane is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine for UCF College of Medicine, LECOM, NSU-KPCOM and KCU and is passionate about training and education. She works for AdventHealth Medical Group in Celebration, FL as a gastroenterologist and a Director of Medicine Specialties for the group. Her enthusiasm for campus leadership are demonstrated by serving as Assistant Chief of Staff as well as a Provider Specialist Trainer and Champion for Epic. She is currently enrolled in an MBA program with Health Service Administration focus at Barry University and has a particular interest in Health Care Informatics. In her spare time, she runs marathons, volunteers for local charities, travels and spends time with her wife and family in Central Florida.

Matthew Grounds, DO started his medicine career as an emergency department unit clerk. Guided by his continued interest in medicine he completed a BS in Biology at Pittsburg State University, emphasizing in pre-medical studies. He was accepted to KCUMB-COM in 2003 and completed his medical degree in 2007. He matched into the emergency medicine residency at Freeman Health system where he completed his post-doctoral training in June of 2011. He began his post-residency career with the recovery, rebuilding, and renewing efforts of the medical community for patients following the devastating F-5 Joplin Tornado in May 2011.
Dr. Grounds continued his education with certifications in Advanced Sigma Black belt and Lean techniques to progress efficiency of emergency medicine care delivery with goals to provide the most efficient highest quality care available.
He graciously accepted an appointment as a member of teaching faculty for the emergency medicine residency program at Freeman Health System. He has maintained his status with the program in the role of assistant program director as well as being involved with student and resident mentorship programs.
Dr. Grounds has served as medical director at Freeman West Hospital Emergency department, a level II trauma center with STEMI and Stroke accreditations that serves a 4-state region of more than 500,000 people with nearly 50,000 very high acuity emergency department visits. He is a physician advisory member of the regional STEMI and Stroke programs for his practice region
He fiercely defends his time with his family and maintains them and his faith as his highest priorities. He is an avid gardener and considers himself a 40+ year novice for vertical horticulture.

Chad Anthony Boulware, DO, was born in Joplin, MO and grew up in Webb City, where he graduated high school in 1995. He attended Missouri Southern State University, graduating from the Honors Program in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in science majoring in biology/premed. He then pursued his doctorate in osteopathy at Kansas City University, graduating in 2003. After a one-year traditional rotating internship, he completed residency in Emergency Medicine at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO in 2007. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by the AOBEM and is currently confused regarding the CORE, as most of you are.
Dr. Boulware has practiced Emergency Medicine for fifteen years with special interests in Wilderness Medicine, Sports Medicine, and CrossFit. He recently obtained his CF-L1 and is a member of CrossFit Health. He is an active member of the Wilderness Medical Society, the ACOEP, and ACEP/MoCEP. In 2020, he was inducted into the Webb City R-7 Hall of Fame for his community service during his career, including the aftermath of the Joplin Tornado of 2011 and the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gretchen Gold's area of practice is in estate and trust taxation, estate planning, probate and trust administration, probate and trust litigation, adult and minor guardianships, charitable and not-for-profit planning, business succession, and wealth preservation planning. She managed the former Lathrop Gage LLP Wealth Strategies department from 2008-2011.
Gretchen provides lifetime financial planning involving special needs of children, spouses, and financial planning related to divorce. She assists clients in the preparation of estate planning documents, from Wills and Trusts containing complicated tax and distribution provisions, to Family Limited Partnerships, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Irrevocable Gift Trusts, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, Charitable Lead and Remainder Trusts, and many other sophisticated estate planning devices.

Retired from KCMO after 23 years as Director of Health for the City of Kansas City, Missouri. He was responsible for safeguarding the public health of nearly half a million residents and a daytime population of almost one million. He presently serves as Chair of the international Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) and as a member of the Past President Council of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
Dr. Archer has served on numerous national committees involved with public health including most recently the Council of Linkages between Academia and Public Health Practice, Public Health Foundation.
Under Dr. Archer’s leadership, the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department is, to date, the only health department in the country to win NACCHO’s Local Health Department of the Year award more than once! They are also one of a handful to have earned both PHAB national reaccreditation, and to have led their community to a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Prize.
Dr. Archer completed his medical degree at the University of Kansas and his General Preventive Medicine Public Health Residency and Master’s in Public Health degree at the University of Michigan. He is recognized as a Public Health Leadership Institute Scholar by UCLA/CDC. He has served as Physician in Charge of Employee Health Programs for the Ford Motor Company and has held local and state public health positions in Maryland.
Dr. Archer was the recipient of the 2013 Milton and Ruth Roemer Prize for Creative Local Public Health Work. The award is the top honor given annually to a local health director by the more than 25,000 members of the American Public Health Association.
In July of 2018, Dr. Archer received NACCHO’s Maurice “Mo” Mullet Lifetime of Service Award for noteworthy service to NACCHO that has reflected the commitment, vigor, and leadership exemplified by Mo Mullet’s distinguished career.

Andrew Lupo, MD, is the current pediatric and adolescent gynecology fellow at Children’s Mercy Hospital/UMKC School of Medicine. He is excited to join the Children’s Mercy community.
He was originally born in Washington DC. He is the youngest of four boys in a military family. They travelled around frequently and eventually settled down in San Antonio for high school. After graduation, he went to The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Following college, he moved to Austin, TX to participate in a post-baccalaureate pre-medicine program.
He attended Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and was inaugurated into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Following medical school, he matriculated into the obstetrics and gynecology residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. While studying under attendings such as Jason Jarin, Kimberly Kho, Ellen Wilson, and Stephanie Chang, he developed a passion for pediatric and adolescent gynecology and minimally invasive surgery.
Following residency, he participated in a one-year advanced pelvic and robotic surgery fellowship. He moved to Kansas City in June of 2021 with his partner, Sebastian, and their dog, Sahara. Andrew is passionate for equitable access to medical care, the care of marginalized communities, the care of members of the LGBTQAI+ community, and advocacy for adult and pediatric patients.

Cynthia Delgado MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine with the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (SFVAHS) and University of California, San Francisco. She is the Associate Chief of Nephrology for clinical operations and the Director of the Dialysis Program for San Francisco Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. She is the Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the American Society of Nephrology and served as the co-chair of the NKF-ASN Task Force on Reassessing the Inclusion of Race in Diagnosing Kidney Disease. She is a recognized international expert on functional status, frailty, body composition, quality of life and related outcomes among individuals with chronic kidney disease.

Dr. W. Joshua Cox is the Executive Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and Vice Provost for Medical Affairs at Kansas City University (KCU). He began his career as a family physician for the U.S. Army and in 2006 joined the KCU faculty. During his tenure at the university, he has served in a number of capacities, including Professor of Family Medicine, Chair of Primary Care, Associate Dean of Clinical Education, COM Campus Dean for Kansas City, and interim Director of campus health and well-being. He has also organized and participated in numerous KCU global health outreach trips to Kenya, Dominican Republic, and India. Additionally, he has served as a supervising physician for the Score One for Health program.
Dr. Cox earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from KCU-COM, and is residency trained and board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. He is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), and in 2019 was awarded the Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Cox is a national faculty member for both the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and the American Academy of Family Physicians, and has given numerous invited presentations nationally and internationally. He received the Army Commendation Medal for his services in Family Practice and has received other awards such as the Ingram’s magazine Heroes in Healthcare Award in 2017, and in 2022 both the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Medallion Award, and the KC Business Journal-20 Healthcare professionals to know.
