Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, CS-F is most recently Dean of MWU/CCOM serving from 2002 until stepping down July 2018. Prior to serving as Dean, she held leadership positions at the MWU/AZCOM. She was in the private practice of internal medicine in Mesa, Arizona from 1985. A graduate of KCU-COM, she holds a Master’s degree in Management from Central Michigan University.

Dr. Nichols has received the highest awards bestowed by the osteopathic profession. She was the first woman elected as President of AOA, AOMA and ACOI. Dr. Nichols was elected to the board of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2015 and was elected as chair for 2020-2022.

In 2004 Dr. Nichols created the endowed Costin Institute for Osteopathic Medical Educators. Her book “Physician Leadership: The 11 Skills Every Doctor Needs to be an Effective Leader” was just published by John Wiley & Sons.
