David Paul, DO, DO
Orthopedic Surgeon
Orthopedic Surgeons Inc. (OSI)
David Paul, DO, became interested in health care through his father, who was a dentist. As a medical student, he became interested in orthopedics after shadowing his older brother many times, Dr. Robert Paul. He performed his residency with OSI, then joined the practice following its completion. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He received his bachelor’s degree in science from Avila University, Kansas City, Mo.
In high school, Dr. Paul was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track and field. He continued his basketball career in college, playing Division I basketball at Eastern Illinois University for two years. He was academic All American his second year at Eastern. He transferred and finished his basketball career at Avila University. With his background in sports, he enjoys working with young athletes, helping them return to their level of play. He also appreciates the technical aspect of performing orthopedic surgery, as well as the gratification of being able to improve his patients’ lives in a relatively short period of time.
Although he still performs most aspects of orthopedic surgery, his practice has become extremely busy with adult reconstruction, or total joint replacements. He began performing the direct anterior approach to hip replacement about 10 years ago, helping patients recover in less time and with less pain than with traditional joint replacement surgery. He strives to keep current on the newest and most innovative surgical techniques, especially as they relate to knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Paul is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He belongs to several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. He also serves as an associate clinical instructor for the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and trains surgeon for the orthopedic surgery residency.
Dr. Paul and his wife, Melissa, have four adult children, Matthew, Allison, Meagan and Nathan; and three dogs. He enjoys boating, fishing, traveling and spending time with family.
