Marc B. Hahn, DO

President and Chief Executive Officer of Kansas City University

Since becoming the 14th president and chief executive officer of Kansas City University in 2013, Marc B. Hahn, DO, has strategically advanced a vision to address health inequities and improve population health – transforming KCU into a comprehensive health sciences university with four academic colleges on two Missouri campuses.

Under his leadership, KCU has: founded an additional campus in Joplin, beginning with a second College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017 followed by a College of Dental Medicine in 2023; expanded the College of Biosciences to offer two biomedical sciences master’s programs and Missouri’s only APA-accredited PsyD program; established the new KCU College of Health Professions, which will welcome its inaugural class of anesthesiologist assistant master’s students on the Joplin campus beginning in early 2026; and has been consistently recognized for excellence in education, employment and community impact.

Dr. Hahn earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University and is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. His anesthesiology career began at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he served chief of pain management services, a faculty member for the Uniformed Services University and as anesthesiologist for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. His textbook, Regional Anesthesia: An Atlas of Anatomy and Technique, was recognized as the “Best New Textbook in Clinical Medicine” by the Association of American Publishers.

Dr. Hahn has received multiple accolades throughout his career, including: a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, for which he had previously served as a Health Policy Fellow and advisor to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance; appointment as the 2025 American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine representative for the National Academy of Medicine Clinician Well-Being Collaborative; and being named among the “50 Missourians You Should Know” and the 250 most influential Kansas City business leaders by Ingram’s Magazine.
