Dr. Amy Sickel obtained her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, California. Her dissertation focused on developing an intervention for children in foster care to improve the parent-child relationship during their visit with their biological parents. Her pre-doctoral internship was completed at The Guidance Center in Long Beach, California, and she returned to Kansas City, Missouri, for her post-doctoral position at University Health’s Lakewood Counseling Center. She provided therapy and psychological testing to children, adolescents, and their families. Part of her post-doc included serving at Lakewood Hospital’s Long-term care unit serving adults with cognitive deficits. Dr. Sickel then began as an adjunct instructor for Kansas City University in 2017 when the program. She has taught Lifespan Development for Infants through Older Adults. She currently serves as an Associate Professor and the Director of Clinical Training for the Health Service Psychology program, where she is committed to developing psychologists who become future colleagues.
